Lynn and Richard Stephenson generously invited CRAFT to their new home in rural Springwater Ontario and chatted about all the details.

The couple was involved and hands-on throughout all build-specifying phases. The final effect is a great layout with plenty of space for Lynn to exercise her decorating talents. The simple, nature-derived palette of white, earthy tones, greys and blues first instills a peaceful atmosphere, after that and when combined with the Stephenson’s company, the entire place is welcoming, homie, and was designed to be so.

Q: When did you move in? / Sqft?

A: We moved in July 2017 and the home is 3 floors, 2575 sqft.

Q: How would you describe the home’s style, and is there anything you’d like to share on the goals/purpose of your living space?

A: Our home style is cozy, some rustic pieces and some personal art that means something to us, or that we received as gifts. I love mixing dark and light tones, light paints, and mostly neutrals –then it’s easy to change around the accents.

Q: Please tell us about your ‘first meeting’ with your floor to be.

A: I (Lynn) walked into a flooring store and literally my eyes went to the Cantabria hardwood, it was exactly what I pictured! It has variations of tones, mix of warm and cooler tones so that it could go with just about anything! The wide planks and beautiful wood grain also attracted me.

We had our heart set on it for 2 years waiting for our new home to be built. We took a sample a year later when we had our meeting for our new house décor, tiles, fixtures, and cabinets and it looked amazing! We looked at other hardwood, and always came back to CRAFT Cantabria!

Lynn: We love it when people come over and say how homey we have made it and love our hardwood!

We like entertaining. We would like to live in our home give or take 25 yrs.

Q: How would you describe your satisfaction with your new floor?

A: We love it– the look, the feel; and it’s fairly durable, but we have a few scratches here and there. We try to keep the right humidity. I’m glad it’s not a glossy finish because it takes enough cleaning already.

Q: Favourite home features?

A: We love our dining room, the furniture goes well with the hardwood.

And also the open concept kitchen/family room. The white cabinets looks so sharp with the hardwood.

Q: Favourite décor and art?

Some of my favourite pieces are the canvas world map painting because we have traveled a lot, and there is an old window from a barn pained with our last name and wedding date.

I love the lighting fixtures which we purchased and saved for the new house; they warm it up.

In the main living area, the waffle-coffered ceiling in the family room area separates the room a bit without walls.
